BBCはケンタッキーフライドチキン（KFC）がチベットへのファーストフード店の出口計画を放棄したと伝えた。

Kentucky Fried Chicken gives up on Tibet

BEIJING, China, Jun. 25 (UPI) Kentucky Fried Chicken has given up plans to open fastfood outlets in Tibet, the BBC reports.

Yum Brands, the parent company, said that it had already decided Tibet would not be profitable before the Dalai Lama made a public appeal to stay out of the country. In his letter, the exiled spiritual leader warned against introducing "industrial food practices" to Tibet.

"I have been particularly concerned with the sufferings of chickens for many years," he said. "It was the death of a chicken that finally strengthened my resolve to become vegetarian. "These days, when I see a row of plucked chickens hanging in a meat shop it hurts."

Kentucky Fried Chicken, like many other American fastfood chains, operates in most of China. But Tibet, while politically part of China, is more isolated and is the center of a strict form of Buddhism.
